Twenty-five PRSSA students traveled to New York City to visit leading corporations, agencies and media organizations such as IBM, Dell, Google, Burson & MBooth. Students also connected with alumni and gained insights into careers in communication through coffee chats and an alumni mixer.
Nineteen BASCA students explored professional opportunities in New York City, visiting Spotify, NBC, Brooklyn Nets HSS Training Center and MMC x RX Mosaic.
Assistant Professor Mimi Brinberg received Ohio State’s Early Career Distinguished Scholar Award, one of the university’s highest honors recognizing outstanding research. This award was given to only three faculty members across the university.
Associate Professor Felecia Ross appeared in the PBS documentary Bombshell, a documentary about the history and media coverage of the atomic bomb, where she discussed how the Black press responded differently. The School of Comm hosted a screening of the documentary in March, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Lantern Faculty Advisor Spencer Hunt featuring Ross and the film’s producer and director.
Student reporters at The Lantern covered Ohio State’s leadership transition, including the announcement of Provost Ravi Bellamkonda as the university’s next president. The Lantern continued its long history of editorial independence, with students covering the breaking news of former President Ted Carter’s departure as well as the developing story with the naming of the new president.
On April 20, the School of Communication awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to nearly 40 students at its annual Undergraduate Scholarship & Awards Ceremony. The school welcomed students, family members, faculty and alumni as it celebrated the achievements of outstanding communication and journalism undergraduate students.
At its annual Comm Day graduate student scholarship and award ceremony in April, graduate students were recognized for their research, teaching and peer mentorship.
The School of Communication continued to demonstrate its commitment to academic excellence, experiential learning and industry engagement throughout the spring semester. The school’s academic excellence was further recognized with Assistant Professor Mimi Brinberg becoming one of three faculty members at the university to receive Ohio State’s Early Career Distinguished Scholar Award. And student journalists at The Lantern demonstrated the strength of independent reporting through their coverage of the university’s leadership transition.
