Ross Featured in PBS Documentary on Media Coverage the Atomic Bomb
Associate Professor Felecia Ross appeared in the PBS documentary Bombshell, a documentary about the history and media coverage of the atomic bomb, where she discussed how the Black press responded differently. The School of Comm hosted a screening of the documentary in March, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Lantern Faculty Advisor Spencer Hunt featuring Ross and the film’s producer and director.
Associate Professor Felecia Ross is featured in an upcoming PBS documentary examining the history and media coverage of the atomic bomb.
The documentary, Bombshell, aired Jan. 6 as part of PBS’s American Experience series. The film explores how the U.S. government downplayed the harmful effects of radiation following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, as well as how much of the mainstream media echoed the government’s narrative during wartime. Ross appears in the documentary to discuss how the Black press responded differently to the bombings.
