Undergraduate Student Sarah Mikati Receives Board of Trustees Award

Sarah Mikati

Sarah Mikati, fourth-year honors journalism, Middle East studies and French major, recently received The Ohio State University Board of Trustees Student Recognition Award for her achievements throughout her undergraduate career.

“Winning this award is definitely an honor,” Mikati said. “I’ve always been an ambitious student and set high standards and goals for myself, but with Ohio State being as big as it is, I never expected to be recognized.”

Mikati has been involved in various student organizations and activities in her four years at Ohio State. She was an undergraduate researcher, previously wrote for The Lantern as a campus reporter and a John Oller Investigative Reporter, former Vice President of the Society of Professional Journalists and heavily involved in Arab organizations on campus. Currently, Mikati is working on her honors thesis after spending a semester abroad doing field research in France.

Mikati said her time in France was the most impactful experience she has had in her time at Ohio State. She said aside from the extremely enriching research she conducted, she learned how to live independently in a foreign country and her language skills and knowledge was pushed to limits she did not know existed.

“It was a major learning and growing experience on so many levels,” Mikati said. “I discovered so much about French society and communities, and hope my thesis will be as impactful to my readers as producing it has been for me.”
