The Lantern Receives Five Ohio SPJ Awards

The Lantern received first place for Best Non Daily College Newspaper in Ohio’s Best Journalism Contest sponsored by Society of Professional Journalists, statewide. The Lantern was noted as an outstanding publication with content that is balanced, relevant, researched, informative and written and edited with top skills in the field. This was one of five awards The Lantern received.

Amanda Etchison took second place for Best News Writing for her article “A Divided Front: What lies in the void between Ohio State’s administrators and teachers?” Etchison’s article was one of the first stories produced by the Data Journalism Class (COMM 4221).

First place in Best College Opinion Writing went to Nicholas McWilliams for his opinion article, “’Locker room talk’ not something to hide behind."

Kevin Stankiewicz took the award for Best College Sports Writing for his “Review of Big Ten athletic contracts finds team performance valued more than academic performance.” This piece was the Oller special reporter project and is also a national award winner. 

William Kosileski took second place for Best College Sports Writing for his article “Wrestling: Husband and father first, All-American wrestler second for Bo Jordan.”
