Eleanor Kapcar graduates with a degree in Strategic Communication in December with two Top Scholar titles and a wide range of internship experience. These awards are given to the top student who represents the best in the School’s majors – public affairs journalism and communication.
Kapcar, a Media, Marketing and Communication Scholar, said the School of Communication has given her so many enriching opportunities to succeed post-graduation. During summer 2020, Kapcar was selected for a highly competitive internship program with JPMorgan Chase & Co., and, after finishing her internship, she received an offer for a full-time analyst position in its leadership development program in Columbus post graduation.
“The School of Communications has set me up in so many ways, like getting involved in The PRactice and PRSSA as a freshman,” said Kapcar. “Those organizations have shaped my college experience.”
Kapcar said joining the Public Relations Student Society of America chapter at Ohio State early allowed her to meet new students and gave her the opportunity to be on the executive board. Kapcar served as PRSSA’s alumni relations director for the 2019-2020 school year, coordinating a professional mentorship program with nearly 100 students and professionals, and initiating high school outreach efforts. She was also an account associate for The PRactice, PRSSA’s student-run public relations firm on campus. She eventually moved up to a supervisor and then an account executive for the public relations firm. Kapcar led a team of eight students doing PR work for real clients, which she said truly prepared her for work outside of Ohio State.
Kapcar also served as an intern for the School of Communication during the 2019-20 academic year where she worked with department leaders and alumni. She helped launch the first Ohio State-Michigan rivalry edition of The Lantern to raise funds for the student newspaper and grow formal mentoring opportunities for alumni. She also hosted events with the College of Arts and Sciences and managed content for the school website and social media accounts.
In Fall 2020, Kapcar interned for Fahlgren Mortine, an integrated communications and marketing agency based in Columbus, in client engagement. She has also worked as a corporate communications intern for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and as an marketing communications intern for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where she produced print and digital promotional content for a bourbon auction that raised $28,900 in one month.
“I am forever thankful to the school and university — and its people, organizations and activities — for making my time at Ohio State the best years of my life,” Kapcar said.
