I study the impact of social identities, particularly bipartisan social identities, on political polarization. Simulating ecological context, I manipulate cues and affordances that are typically found in new media contexts. Methodologically, I employ experimental design, selective and forced exposure, questionnaire design, and network analysis. Considering theory, I draw on diverse theories from social psychology and communication, including Spiral of Silence and motivated reasoning.
