About Me

Teaching

I teach these courses for the School of Communication:

COMM 3163—Communication Industry Research Methods

COMM 3440—Mass Communication and Society

Research

My research interests focus on the dynamic interaction between media messages and human beings. Given my background in the music radio industry, much of my work centers on how elements of audio impact audience attention and emotion.

Most of my studies are experiments that combine self-report measures (e.g., questionnaires and memory tests) with biological measures like heart rate, skin conductance, facial muscle activation, eye tracking, and brain wave fluctuation to quantify concepts like attention, engagement, arousal, and emotional valence.

I am a Fellow of the International Communication Association, an organizer of the School’s PRACTICA Research Group, and lead the PANAM Lab.
