The School of Communication held its first ever school-wide reunion on Sept. 12. Around 250 alumni, faculty and friends were able to attend the event, which also included a formal dedication of the new Lantern newsroom.
The Lantern dedication ceremony featured CNN’s chief domestic correspondent and anchor Phil Mattingly, along with Nancy Kramer, a lifetime entrepreneur in marketing and technology.
In honor of the new newsroom, The Lantern produced a Commemorative Edition titled Turning the Page, a first-of-its-kind issue featuring reflections from 21 alumni spanning the 1960s through the 2020s.
Following the Lantern newsroom dedication, alumni moved to the Blackwell Inn for lunch and keynote speakers alumna Adrienne Roark, chief content officer for TEGNA, and Bruce Vilanch, Emmy Award-winning comedy writer, songwriter and actor. Attendees then moved to breakout sessions where they learned more about what is happening in the school and networked with faculty and students.
Participants were invited to choose one of three breakout sessions:
- “The Lantern: Past, Present, Future”
- "Strategic Communication Panels and Discussion: Preparing the Next Generation"
- "Curiosity-Fueled, Theory-Driven: The Buckeye Approach to Communication Research"
