Student-run PR Firm Helps Columbus Bakery Celebrate 70 Years with Strategic PR Campaign

Students in The PRactice partner with The Original Goodie Shop to execute a strategic campaign for the bakery’s 70th anniversary, generating more than 57,000 social media views and drawing lines out the door for the celebration.

Students in Ohio State’s PRSSA student-run public relations firm, The PRactice, partnered with client The Original Goodie Shop to design and implement a strategic communications campaign to celebrate the bakery’s 70th anniversary. 

Student associates on The Original Goodie Shop team developed a strategic public relations campaign focused on media outreach, social media and influencer engagement. The bakery is known for its decades-long presence in the Columbus community and its anniversary provided an opportunity to both honor its legacy and reach new audiences.

The account lead, Sydney Friedt, and her associates led media pitching efforts and executed a targeted social media influencer campaign to build anticipation leading up to the event. Their work resulted in a significant boost in visibility for the business, with the bakery’s social media accounts gaining more than 57,000 views during the campaign week, along with over 1,000 engagements and 173 new followers. 

The anniversary event drew more than 100 attendees, with lines stretching out the door as locals gathered to celebrate the milestone.

The campaign reflects the hands-on, client-based experiences students gain through The PRactice, where they apply classroom concepts to real-world communications efforts. Under the leadership of student CEO Erin Estocin, 58 students participated in The PRactice during the 2025-26 academic year, serving as board members, account leads and account associates. 

Students provided public relations services for 12 clients, including Budd Dairy Food Hall, Short North Stage, Ohio State’s Sports & Society Initiative and more. 

Through partnerships like The Original Goodie Shop, The PRactice continues to provide students with opportunities to deliver measurable results while supporting local organizations and businesses. 

Fall associate applications for The PRactice are open and will close on Aug. 1 at 11:59 p.m.
