The PRactice Gains Publicity for Boxer Buster Douglas
The PRactice student-run PR firm has been garnering publicity for retired boxer Buster Douglas leading up to February 11, 2020, which marks the 30th anniversary of Buster Douglas’ victory over Mike Tyson despite 42-1 odds.
Led by senior Brooke Crockett and junior Lexi Turner, the team of 10 students have been creating social media content and providing event support.
"It's been so cool to see the guts of an actual campaign being implemented. It's meaningful to see the work we're doing actually paying off. I'm so excited for what is coming," said Crockett.
Douglas visited campus Nov. 11 to host a boxing clinic, a Q&A session and a showing of "42 to 1," an ESPN "30 for 30" documentary released in 2018.
In October Crockett spoke in front of the Ohio senate to make Feb. 11, 2020, official "42 to 1 Day" in Ohio.
"Even though I wasn't alive to see the match, it resonates with me because it's a story about overcoming difficult odds," Crockett said.
A 30th anniversary gala and fundraiser benefiting Brightway Center will celebrate Douglas' victory Feb. 7, 2020, from 6-11 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus.
