Assistant Professor Teresa Lynch’s research on female characters in video games was cited in the 2023 Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media report "Changing the Narrative: Why Representation in Video Games Matters.”

The report referenced Lynch's study, titled "Sexy, Strong, and Secondary: A Comprehensive Analysis of Female Characters in Video Games spanning 31 Years." This study examined the in-game content of titles released between 1983 and 2014, all of which included playable female characters.

The report cited Lynch's findings, which underscored how unrealistic body proportions, sexually revealing clothing and programmed mannerisms contribute to the perpetuation of objectifying aesthetic standards for female characters within video games.
