The Lantern received first place in In-Depth Reporting and second place in News Coverage, Headline Writing and Best Multi-Media Package among other awards from The Ohio News Media Association in its annual Ohio collegiate newspaper and website competition. ONMA and the Ohio News Media Foundation recognize the achievements of Ohio’s college and university newspapers. 

The contest, consisting of 10 categories in two divisions, awarded the Lantern several certificates for first, second and third place including:

• 1^st Place
  • In-Depth Reporting: Sarah Szilagy - "As Strauss victims and students supported statutes of limitations bill, Ohio State lobbied against it"
• 2^nd Place:
  • News Coverage: Lantern Staff
  • Headline Writing: “Lindsey Amore Shower Singers Welcome at Bad Singers Karaoke Club"
  • Best Multi-Media Package: Jessica Langer, Athena Markowski - "Timeout Series"
• 3^rd Place:

  • Best Multi-Media Package: Sarah Szilagy - "Truths Untold"
