The Lantern was mentioned in a recent Degree Choices article, ranking the best college newspapers in 2022 in different categories by traffic and engagement. 

The Lantern’s Tyrik Hutchinson-Junior was named the student journalist with the most individual article shares. Hutchinson-Junior’s article, ‘Childhood friends set to open Columbus’ first sober bar’ scored an outstanding 170,900 shares. 

The Lantern ranked third overall for social engagement, social shares and online engagement. There were 395,020 total shares for The Lantern in 2022. Harvard’s Onward State ranks first with 810,843 total social engagements. 

The Lantern also ranks third for “most consistent engagement per article.”  The average engagement per Lantern article is 225. University of Florida’s Independent Florida Alligator ranks first with an average of 295 shares per article published.
