Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Nicole Kraft, director of the Sports & Society Initiative and associate professor of clinical communication, spoke on the "pay-to-play" issue of whether college athletes should be allowed to receive endorsement deals. California became the first state to sign a provision to allow this on September 30.

The first step, Kraft said, is understanding compliance in college sports.

"Now that we have the evolution of the student athlete model where we’re looking at whether or not they can be paid for their likeness, we have even more questions about how compliance will come into play," she said.

Kraft moderated a discussion about college athletics compliance with panelists from the Columbus sports community on October 3 at the Ohio Union.
