Journalism Alum Reports Alongside Former Professor 16 Years Later
Ohio State journalism alumna Brittany Schock (‘12), regional editor for Delaware Source, reported alongside Professor of Practice Nicole Kraft at the 2026 Little Brown Jug harness race, nearly 16 years after taking Kraft’s feature writing class.
Schock said Kraft was her first call when she learned she would be covering the race.
In a LinkedIn post, Schock wrote it was “a special moment of serendipity for me, working alongside the person whose class helped me fall in love with journalism.”
Kraft also brought current Ohio State journalism students Blake Anderson, Landon Watson, Elianna Norder, Matthew Stone and Logan Miller to cover the event and gain hands-on experience.
Schock credits Kraft for discovering her passion for journalism. “I started as a freshman with a totally different major but being there helped me discover my true passion for journalism,” Schock said.
“And it all started with my first class with Nicole, realizing this is what I’m meant to be doing.”
Schock has over a decade of journalism experience and has been a practitioner of solutions journalism since 2016. Her award-winning work has been nationally recognized by the Solutions Journalism Network, LION Publishers and the Knight Foundation, and she's been invited to represent the Source in conversations about solutions journalism all over the world.
She helped launch Delaware Source as Source’s fourth official newsroom in February 2026.
Kraft reports on sports for The Associated Press, The Columbus Dispatch and Forbes and serves as director of Ohio State Sports and Society Institute.
