Journalism Alum Co-Authors NYT Bestseller
School of Communication alum Garrick Kennedy (‘09) reached a major career milestone as co-author of Phases, the new memoir by Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress Brandy. The book debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list.
Phases is about Brandy’s life and career, giving readers an intimate look at her rise to stardom, the challenges she faced in the spotlight and the personal growth that shaped her journey. Kennedy collaborated with Brandy to bring her story to life.
Since graduating from Ohio State in 2009 with a journalism degree, Kennedy built an impressive career covering entertainment, culture and the arts. He spent a decade as a journalist with the Los Angeles Times, where he reported on music, film and television while interviewing some of the industry’s most influential artists and entertainers.
In addition to his work as a journalist and author, Kennedy served as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California for five years.
