Bushman Research Links Climate, Violence

New York Magazine’s Science of Us blog featured research by Brad Bushman, professor of communication and psychology, in a post exploring whether warm climates make people more violent. Bushman is co-author on a new paper in Behavioral and Brain Sciences that argues that climate, and the culture it creates, is the primary driver of aggression. That living in a place with greater seasonality and lower temperatures encourages people to be more future-oriented and put greater value on self-control. Researchers call the new model CLASH (CLimate Aggression, and Self-control in Humans) and the study researches various links between climate and violence.
