PRSSA students travel to NYC for networking trip

In February, 25 members of the Public Relations Student Society of America at Ohio State traveled to New York City for their annual spring networking trip. This trip allowed members the chance to connect with industry professionals and gain insight into public relations beyond the classroom.
Students visited CBS News, Weber Shandwick, Google, RXMosaic/Marina Maher Communications (MMC) and PRSA-NY.
“Being able to tour and learn from different agencies and companies gave me an inside look on how diverse careers in communications and PR can be,” said Ava Soilis, a chapter member.
“Talking to industry professionals gave me an opportunity to expand my network and make valuable connections with Ohio State alumni. Going to NYC with PRSSA has strengthened my relationships with other members while making everlasting memories.”
Between programming, students attended coffee chats with industry professionals and Ohio State alumni. The chapter also hosted a mixer for local alumni to network and connect with current students on the trip.
The trip was planned by undergraduate students Jessica Barboza, Nicole Giannetta, Lindsey Romano, Nawal Abdikadir, Kayda Ryan, Delaney Callison, Jaxen Swank and Jane Greco.
“This experience eased a lot of my worries of not knowing exactly how my career will pan out, which reminded me that career paths aren’t linear,” said Abdikadir. “It doesn’t matter how you make your start, but rather the connections you make and the skills you take away from your experiences.”
Abdikadir serves as a member of the chapter’s special events and travel subcommittee.
In addition to their annual trip to New York City in the spring, the chapter also hosts a networking or professional development trip in the fall.
This past fall, 14 chapter members traveled to Anaheim, California, where they attended the 2024 PRSSA international conference.
