Ohio State Faculty & Students Featured at 109th Annual NCA Convention

Over two dozen faculty and graduate students contributed as paper authors, presenters, respondents and session chairs at the National Communication Association 109th Annual Convention in National Harbor, Maryland, Nov. 16-19.
Four of the research papers presented received Top Paper Awards:
Associate Professor Matthew Grizzard and Rebecca Frazer (PhD 23) received a Top Paper Award for the Mass Communication Division for their paper, “Reconceptualizing Selective Moral Disengagement Mechanisms as Continuums of Moral Influence: A Theoretical Expansion.” This marks Grizzard's fifth consecutive year of earning the Top Paper accolade in this division at NCA.
PhD student Morgan Quinn Ross presented "Antecedents and Consequences of Smartphone Self-Extension," with external collaborator Kostadin Kushlev. It received a Top 4 Paper Award from the Human Communication and Technology Division.
“Victims of Circumstance: The Role of Behavior-Independent Events in the Disposition Formation Process” won a Top Paper Award in the Communication and Social Cognition Division. Presenters were PhD student Lucy Brown, Associate Professor Matthew Grizzard, Joe Francemone (PhD 23), Rebecca Frazer (PhD 23), PhD student Annie Dooley, PhD student Chas Monge and MA student Samantha Flanagan.
PhD student Jessica Ryu and Associate Professor Shelly Hovick received a Top Paper Award in the Health Communication Division, for their manuscript titled "Current Approaches and New Directions for Research and Theorizing on Health and Risk Information Behavior."
