New School of Communication Spaces Offer Opportunity for Research and Collaboration

School of Communication research lab

The School of Communication recently opened two spaces in the Journalism Building, available for professors to reserve for class use and research.  The first, JR217 is a conference room that will be used as a meeting space for students. Focus groups, faculty meetings, and other meetings can be held here, as well. The second space, JR 231/233 is a faculty research space for Computer Mediated Communication and Human-Computer Interactions studies.

Room 231 includes an intake where research subjects would check in, along with two separate clusters of research space within 233. This room includes five single seat stations and four double seat stations and each have video and audio recording capabilities to study how subjects interact with computer-based stimuli. Lastly, there is a control room where you can monitor the stimuli and the subjects.

Additional School of Communication space

The capabilities of these spaces are only limited by the creativity of the faculty and graduate students conducting research. The research done in this space may include, but is not limited to, social media; aggression and violence; media selection; uses and effects in the areas of new media; political communication; health communication; news and entertainment; media effects on beliefs; behavior and persuasion processes in areas such as substance abuse and cancer prevention; and the effects of media on children.
