The Lantern was named a finalist for the Student Press Law Center's Freedom of Information Award in late 2023. The Lantern was recognized for its commitment to pursuing public records and continued efforts to keep those in power accountable.

This recognition was announced, alongside the winner and two other finalists, during the Associated Collegiate Press & College Media Association Award Ceremony in Atlanta Oct. 29-Nov. 2, 2023.
