Sexual harassment doesn’t just happen in physical spaces. Jesse Fox, an associate professor of communication who researches the social implications of virtual reality, points out in Technology Review that it can occur virtually. Meta’s virtual reality social media platform is already grappling with this problem. 

“I think people should keep in mind that sexual harassment has never had to be a physical thing,” she said in the article. “It can be verbal, and yes, it can be a virtual experience as well.”

Fox also suggests creating deterrents in the virtual word; those who commit such acts should be suspended or banned.
