A simulation developed by Nicole Kraft that teaches student journalists how to cover breaking news in real time was the first-place winner of Teaching News Terrifically competition at the 2019 annual meeting of the Association for Educators in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Kraft, an associate professor of clinical communication, works with Ohio State Public Safety, Administration and Planning and the Wexner Medical Center on the simulation, which allows students to learn breaking-news reporting in real time around a simulated campus crisis.

The honor, which recognizes an innovative method for teaching news that can be duplicated by other educators to advance journalism education, was awarded by AEJMC's Newspaper and Online News Division

To learn more about the simulation, read Kraft's article, Life Imitates Education in Ohio State Journalism Simulation of Campus Shooting.
