Jesse Fox Quoted in The Guardian on Sexual Harassment in Virtual Reality

Jesse Fox

Assistant professor Jesse Fox was recently quoted in an article in The Guardian about sexual harrassment in virtual reality. Fox's research focuses on implications of virtual reality, as well as issues of sex and gender at the intersection of communication technologies.

In the article, Fox said virtual realities open the door to a new level of violation. Virtual environments add an extra layer of immersion, so the visual stimuli of being groped in the virtual world is the same as if it were to happen in the real world. She adds virtual reality groping or harrassment adds a level of shock by destroying the user's sense of immersion in the virtual world.
