Lantern TV won 2016 College Emmy awards for General News Assignment and Writing from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Lantern TV’s meteorologist was also selected as Honorable Mention in the Talent category.

Kraft Receives AEJMC Educator of the Year Award

Student Research on Societal Changes Resulting from Paris Attacks Receives Funding

A School of Communication student’s plan to study the societal changes wrought by the Nov. 13 Paris terror attacks won the support of a research scholarship and an international research grant from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Massarah Mikati, a third-year student majoring in Journalism, Middle East Studies and Francophone studies, will receive $11,000 to help cover costs as she conducts research for her honors thesis in France during the autumn semester.

Schunn Honored for Outstanding Writing Instruction

Graduate student Morgan Schunn received the 2015-2016 Outstanding Writing Instruction Award from the Ohio State Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing. This award recognized her use of learning technologies and writing activities in the classroom to promote critical thinking, teach writing as a process and encourage students to know their audience.

Student Receives $1,000 Research Scholar Award

Elizabeth Riggs, a double major in Film Studies and Communications Analysis and Practice and research assistant for communication PhD student Courtney Anderegg, received a $1,000 Research Scholar Award from the university’s Undergraduate Research Office for her work on a narrative analysis project. The study used a segmentation approach to divide a feature-length film into meaningful units in order to analyze discontinuities in narrative shifts.

The Lantern, Writers Receive SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards

Ohio State’s student newspaper The Lantern walked away from the annual Ohio Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards with major accolades. These awards honor the best in student journalism in various categories, and The Lantern and its writers won in every category in which they were named finalists.
