Undergraduate Student Sarah Mikati Receives Board of Trustees Award

Sarah Mikati, fourth-year honors journalism, Middle East studies and French major, recently received The Ohio State University Board of Trustees Student Recognition Award for her achievements throughout her undergraduate career.

“Winning this award is definitely an honor,” Mikati said. “I’ve always been an ambitious student and set high standards and goals for myself, but with Ohio State being as big as it is, I never expected to be recognized.”

Joseph Bayer Receives Mattox Award for Research

Joseph Bayer, assistant professor, was recently awarded the Sarah Evans Mattox Faculty Research award. This endowment provides support on a competitive basis for a faculty member's research. Specifically, this award is given to a highly productive, innovative faculty member who conducts research on the impact of media on public opinion and/or society. A committee of three professors were appointed by Director Dan McDonald to select this year's winner. 

Zheng (Joyce) Wang Wins ASCoR McQuail Award

Dr. Zheng (Joyce) Wang is the recepient of the 2016 ASCoR McQuail Award. This award is given annually to the best article advancing communication theory published in peer-reviewed journals in the previous two years. The award recipient is chosen by an international committee. 

Wang is invited to Amsterdam, Netherlands, to give the annual McQuail lecture in December and will be a McQuail Honorary Fellow in the Amsterdam School of Communication Research. 

Bushman Receives Kurt Lewin Award from SPSSI

School of Communication Professor Brad Bushman recently received the Kurt Lewin Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI). 

The award is presented annually for "outstanding contributions to the development and integration of psychological research and social action." The award is named after the late Kurt Lewin, a pioneer in the science of group dynamics and a founder of SPSSI. 

Alumnus Jeffrey Logan Receives Ralph Davenport Mershon Award

School of Communication alumnus and former Ohio State football player, Jeffrey Logan was recently honored by the Alumni Association and awarded the Ralph Davenport Mershon Award. This award is presented to an alumnus who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and service to The Ohio State University.

“I was shocked,” Logan said. “I’m always blown away when I read about some of the [recipients] and some of their accomplishments, so to be included in this was a little humbling.”
